-

MIRI: A team of education counsellors from New Zealand universities visited SMK Chung Hua here yesterday to share with students there on higher education opportunities in the country through their road show.

The road show jointly organised by Angela Educational Services (also known as MMS Miri) and Education New Zealand brought together eight top-notch New Zealand universities comprising Auckland University of Technology (AUT), University of Auckland, University of Canterbury, Lincoln University, Massey University, University of Otago, Victoria University of Wellington and University of Waikato.

Apart from these, it was also participated by UC International College (Christchurch, New Zealand), ACG Education (a New Zealand based private education company), Unitec Institute of Technology (Auckland, New Zealand) and KYS Business School (a local college in Melaka).

“The event aimed to help these students in choosing the right courses and programmes as their choice of study at university level,” said Desiree Lee, the marketing manager (for Malaysia and Philippines) of Education New Zealand.

She said while many students are still pondering what courses to take after their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia ( STPM), many are still not aware of the choices available in New Zealand universities on related courses and the career opportunities after they graduate. In addition, the road show also provided first hand information on lifestyle, tuition fees and scholarships which the institutions offer, she added.

About 300 SPM and 30 STPM students attended the event held at the school assembly hall.

Lee also added that this education road show is the first stop in Sarawak and Sabah where today ( Mar 13) the event will be held in Kuching at Chung Hua Middle School No.1 and St Joseph’s Private School. Its next stop will be on Friday ( Mar 15) in Kota Kinabalu where the team will visit Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Institut Sinaran and Kolej Teknikal Yayasan Sabah.
