S’wak Bumiputra Closed attract 190 shuttlers

KUCHING: Irsyad Iskandar was c rowned Men’s Open singles champion after he beat Hardiyandi Hamden in three sets at the Sarawak Bumiputra Closed Badminton Competitio­n from Mar 8-10.

Irsyad was one set down 17-21 but he managed to recover and win the next two sets 21-17, 21-13.

In joint third were Syafiq Azhar and Nik Azizi.

The Men’s Open doubles final saw Mohd Faisal-Yusri Azmi beating Syafiq Azhar-Nik Azizi in straight sets of 21-18, 21-15.

Mohd Quasyairi- Aizat and Hardiyandi-Irsyad Iskandar were joint third.

Mohd Quasyairi claimed the Men’s Novice singles title after he beat Irsyad Iskandar 21-17, 22-20.

Dzulhaziq and Aznor Afiq took the Men’s Novice doubles title when they beat Mohd QuasyairiI­rsyad Iskandar 21-15, 20-22, 2116.

Awang Ahmat and Dr Bustari claimed the men’s veteran crown when they beat the pair of Kalana Ali Hassan and Rozly 21-16, 21-16.

Meanwhile, Lloyderyen­a was crowned the women’s singles champion after she beat Shu Anne J Yong 21-12, 21-19 in the final.

The women’s doubles title went to Immanlainy-Alvena Anne who tamed Fateen Sharizan-Hafizah Zulkipli 23-21, 19-21 and 21-12.

A total of 160 men and 30 women participat­ed in the tournament organised by PBBS at the PBBS Badminton Hal l along Jalan Sultan Tengah.
