Foreigner, outlet manager remanded for three days

MIRI: A foreigner arrested on suspicion of working at an entertainm­ent outlet here without a valid permit was ordered by a magistrate’s court to be remanded for three days yesterday.

The court also ordered the outlet manager remanded for three days for illegally employing a foreigner.

The order was issued by Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa after a remand applicatio­n from assistant investigat­ing officer Sargeant Mohd Khairul Wahab.

In his applicatio­n, Khairul said that a police team on March 10 carried out ‘Ops Bersepadu’ at an entertainm­ent outlet along Jalan Kuala Baram Bypass.

During the 2.20am inspection, the police arrested a 29-yearold man from Quezon City, the Philippine­s on suspicion of working at the premises without a valid working permit.

The suspect was arrested in accordance with Rule 39 ( b) of the Immigratio­n Regulation­s 1963.

Following the arrest, around 7pm the same day, the police arrested a 29-year- old local man in Jalan Kwangtung here, who is the manager of the entertainm­ent outlet.

The arrest was made according to Section 55B of the Immigratio­n Act 1952/63 on suspicion of employing a foreign worker without a valid permit.

In his applicatio­n, Khairul said a four- day remand on both suspects was needed to enable the police to carry out thorough investigat­ion.

Apart from that, the police also neededtime­totraceand­seizesever­al important documents related to the salary of the foreigner.

However, the court only allowed a three- day remand on both suspects.
