SEDC, JCorp sign MoU on agropreneurism venture

KUCHING: Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) has signed a memorandum of understanding ( MoU) with Johor Corporation (JCorp) on an agropreneurism, animalrearing and food production venture.

SEDC chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain said this was in line with the government’s strategy to ensure that Sarawak would achieve its goal of becoming a main food exporter in Malaysia by 2030.

SEDC has long been involved in animal- rearing such as that of cattle, as well as chickens for both their meat and eggs, he said.

“We have cattle farms in Australia, and also several rearing stations under our subsidiary company, Rosewood Station Pte Ltd, which has won several awards. We get high demand for our chickens and beef, but our capacity is still low.

“With the MoU, we hope to expand our capacity,” he said at the signing ceremony on Thursday night.

The signatories were SEDC general manager Abdul Hadi Abdul Kadir and JCorp business development division vicepresident Mohd Sahir Rahmat.

Meanwhile, JCorp president and chief executive Datuk Kamaruzzaman Abu Kasim said both corporations would share expertise and resources to explore other business opportunities that would benefit and value-add both parties.

He said the strategic cooperation would also touch on entrepreneurs’ development, management, services and others related to agropreneurism.

“This is in line with our efforts to pool resources, as well as capital and expertise, which will impact and benefit the country.”
