Seeded doubles in CM Cup finals

KUCHING: Top seeds Andrew Paulson of Czech Republic and Demark’s Holger Vitus Nodskov Rune wi l l face of f against Japanese pair of Kokoro Isomura and Shunsuke Mitsui in the boys doubles final of the ITF World Tennis Tour J1- 33rd Sarawak Chief Minister’s Cup ( I) today.

In yesterday’s last four match, Paulson and Rune came back from one set down to oust eight seeded pair of Blu Baker ( Great Britain) and Adam Neff ( USA) 1- 6, 6- 3 (10- 4).

Isomura and Mitsui claimed their spot in the final after a hardfought 6- 4, 1- 6 (10- 4) win over Dutch pair Christian Lerby and Lodewjk Westrate, who are seeded third in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Linda Fruhvirtova and Kristyna Lavickova of Czech Republic will face Fatima Ingrid Amartha Keita of Romania and South Korea’s Ku Yeon Woo for the girls doubles title.

The seventh seeded Czechs defeated Aunchisa Chanta and Supapitch Kuearum of Thailand 6- 4, 6-2.

Their opponents Keita and Ku meanwhi le had a harder time beating Amber Marshall (Australia) and Yang Ya Yi (China) 6- 3, 2- 6 (10-7).

The boys and girls singles semifinals will also take place today.

Mitsui, the boys doubles finalist, will play against No.4 seed Dane Sweeny of Australia.

The Japanese advanced to the last four by default after his opponent Wang Xiaofei of China was said to have verbally abused the umpire.

Sweeny on the other hand defeated 12th seeded Paulson 62, 6- 0.

The other semifinal will see eighth seeded Kevin Cahoud of Sweden facing China’s Zheng Baoluo.

Cahoud defeated Neff 7- 5, 6-1 while Zheng had to battle it hard before defeating 16th seed Ryoma Matsushita of Japan 5-7, 6-2, 6-2.

In the girls singles semi-finals, first seeded Joanna Garland of Chinese Taipei will play against No.15 seed Punnin Kovapitukted ( Thai land), whi le the other match wil l be Fruhvirtova against Aunchisa Chanta also of Thailand.

Garland ousted ninth seeded Kristyna Lavickova of Czech Republic 6-2, 7-5 while Kovapitukted defeated Yang 6- 3, 6- 3.

Chanta upstaged Skyler Marie Grace Grishuk (USA) 6-3, 6-2 while Fruhvirtova overcame Anatasia Berezov (Australia) 6-1, 6- 3.

All the matches will take place at the SLTA Tennis Centre starting with the boys singles and girls singles semifinals.
