Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak progressing well
KUCHING: The Pan Borneo Highway project in Sarawak is progressing well, assured Minister of Works Baru Bian.
He said although there was slowness in work on some sections of the highway, it would not affect the project as a whole.
“The Pan Borneo Highway is a big project in Sarawak and so it will continue. I hope the project will progress smoothly. As of now, I was given to understand that the progress so far is good.
“Some of the sections are two to six per cent delayed, but I believe that will not be the reason for them not to make it on time or on schedule,” he told reporters after chairing a meeting of Majlis Tindakan Negeri ( MTNG) Sarawak here yesterday.
He was asked for the latest update on the project.
Baru hoped there would be no delay in the completion of Phase I of the project.
The Pan Borneo Highway Phase I project covers the stretch from Teluk Melano to Miri of about 786 kilometres long, and is divided into 11 packages.
The second phase of the project, which will stretch from Limbang to Lawas, is still under study.
Construction of Pan Borneo Highway is expected to be completed by 2030 in Sarawak and by 2050 in Sabah.
The dual carriageway stretches 2,325 km long.
Deputy secretary-general of the Ministry of Works ( Policy and Development) Dato Abdul Razak Jaafar and state development officer from the Federal Development Office of Sarawak, Mohd Zaki Mahyudin, were also present.
