KUCHING: Members of the Batu Ki tang branch of Democratic Action Party ( DAP) joined the villagers of Kampung Semeba, as well as members of its Neighbourhood Committee ( KRT) 4S and the Coordinating Committee of Tabika Perpaduan (JPTP) Semeba in a ‘gotong-royong’ (work party) at the village on Sunday.

The 40- strong volunteers brought along machetes, highpressure water jet machine and grass- cutters for the work party, which comprised drain- cleaning, bush- clearing and grass- cutting around the neighbourhood.

The team also took extra effort to do some cleaning up inside the KRT 4S office room and the classrooms of the ‘ tabika’ ( pre- school) – both occupying the same building. The ‘gotong-royong’ was jointly organised by the KRT 4S and JPTP Semeba, aimed at providing a safe environment for the pre-schoolers and also one that would also be more conductive to their learning.

DAP Batu Kitang chairman Abdul Aziz Isa viewed that the spirit of the villagers in helping out during any ‘gotong-royong’ as something that must be preserved.

“This is one value which we must maintain and practise forever. The ‘gotong-royong’ not only saves time and cost, but it also serves to foster stronger unity and better understanding among the people.”

KRT 4S chairman Jisin Nyud and JPTP Semeba chairwoman Vanessa Edding also took part in the work party.
