Pustaka Miri hosts Visual Arts exhibition
MIRI: Teachers Education Institute ( IPG) Sarawak Campus will work closely with Pustaka Miri in the effort to impact educational development.
Its director Gumbang Pura said he fully supported the smart partnership for the benefit of the community.
“I believe smart partnership between the IPG Sarawak campus with various agencies is able to contribute huge impact to the educational development,” he stated when officiating at Visual Arts Exhibition themed, ‘Miri A Hidden Treasure’ at Pustaka Miri yesterday.
On the exhibition, Gumbang said the programme would encourage especially youths to further enhance their creativity and innovativeness towards producing art masterpieces.
“I hope this exhibition will serve as alternative platform for knowledge sharing between the community and schools.”
Pustaka Miri regional manager Salina Zawawi in her address said Pustaka Miri encouraged and supported any resource sharing efforts pointing out that arts exhibitions and workshops were among programmes frequently conducted by library.
“Pustaka Miri plays a role as education and resource centre which not only provides reading materials but also offer various knowledge programmes for the people.
“Sadly, such services have not been fully utilised,” she lamented.
In view of that, she said Pustaka Miri always open its doors to the organising of any resource sharing programme that is able to draw the peoples’ participation.
The event was organised by IPG Sarawak Campus’s Social Studies Department and Visual Arts Education Unit in collaboration with Pustaka Miri and Miri City Council ( MCC) Local Agenda 21 ( LA 21).
Various activities were conducted for the event such as workshop to make box arch, making traditional wear using recycled items, competition as well as air brush and Kolograft demonstration.
Also present was MCC secretary Morshidi Fredrick.
