Sibu needs another football field — Assistant Minister

SIBU: Sibu is in need of another footbal l f ield to cope with plans for a major tournament, said Assi stant Mini ster of Education and Technologi­cal Research Dr Annuar Rapaee who is contemplat­ing a grand tournament involving youth aged 20 and below.

“But I wil l need to discuss with the elected representa­tives from Kanowit , Sarikei and Mukah.

“These three places and Sibu will organise their respective tournament­s. From there, each area will send their best two teams to compete in Sibu.

“I plan to rol l out this tournament after the completion of Sarawak Central Zone Soccer 2019,” he added.

Dr Annua r, who i s a l so Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, also pointed out that there is an urgent need for the field in Tun Zaidi Stadium here to be improved for the proposed tournament.

The prison field is currently being used for the five- month Sarawak Central Zone Soccer 2019.

“I wi l l d iscuss with the management of Tun Zaidi Stadium about the need to improve the field there,” he said, adding that an Astroturf f ield has cropped up in his mind.

Dr Annuar was speaking to reporters after watching the Group C match in the Central Zone League between Nangka United and the Cops Sarikei on Sunday.

Nangka United thrashed the Cops Sarikei 6- 0

The Nangka assemblyma­n lamented the poor condition of the ( prison) field which have af fected the performanc­e of league players.

Also present were Sarawak Central Zone Soccer 2019 joint organising chairmen Jimmy De Rozario and Abg Hisham Abg Hashim.
