Awg Tengah: Bumi, non-Bumi contractors can work together
SIBU: Bumiputera and nonBumiputera contractors can do a project together but all must be directly involved in the work and project management until completion.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Bumiputera contractors could improve their knowledge and skills in running future projects through their direct and active involvement in the management of the joint project.
“Bumiputera contractors must be involved directly in the implementation of the projects awarded to them.
“It is unethical for them to hand over 100 per cent of their projects to another party to complete the projects, and hope only for a small percentage from the venture,” he said when officiating at ‘ Contractors Entrepreneurs Symposium’ here yesterday.
Assistant Minister of ECommerce Datuk Mohd Naroden Majais and permanent secretary to the Ministry of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development Datu Liaw Soon Eng were also present.
Awang Tengah, who is also Minister of Industrial and Entrepreneur Development, said that contractors played important roles in assisting the government in its transforming rural development policy.
The implementation of Rural Transformation Projects ( RTP) not only opens up opportunities to Bumiputera contractors and increase their profits, but also a contribution from them to the success of the government policies.
“Contractors should ensure that their projects are completed according to specified period and quality.
“Additionally, safety aspect of workers and the public must be prioritised at all times so there will not be accidents during the project implementation.
“The implementation of RTP projects according to schedule will increase the number of facilities and infrastructure that can contribute to better quality of life of the people, including those the rural areas,” he said.
