‘Applicatio­ns for EFS mostly from Kuching’

KUCHING: The most number of applicatio­ns for the Endownment Fund Sarawak ( EFS) was received in Kuching, said Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Developmen­t Minister Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah.

She revealed that as of March 12, the number of applicatio­ns received in Kuching was 408, followed by Sibu (165), Sri Aman (125), Miri ( 123), Sarikei (40), Bintulu (34), Mukah (33), Limbang ( 30), Betong ( 29), Kapit (14) and Samarahan (8).

“The EFS is for newborn Sarawakian babies whose parents both have ‘ K’ status in their MyKad or least one of them with that status,” she told reporters here yesterday.

The EFS was introduced by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg when tabling the 2019 State Budget on Nov 5, taking effect on Jan 1 this year.

“The chief minister approved allocation of RM40 million for the EFS this year,” she added.
