SIBU: Bumiputera entrepreneurs here have been told that they should emulate the hard work and sacrifice of the Chinese community if they hoped to succeed in business.

Assistant Minister of Education and Technological Research Dr Annuar Rapaee said the Bumiputera business community must always work hard and be willing to sacrifice time and energy in the pursuit of success.

“For example, the Chinese community, they work hard from morning until night and family members will also help in their business. For this, we need to sacrifice. If we work hard, we will succeed and able to compete with entrepreneurs from other races.

“I believe that Bumiputera entrepreneurs from Sibu can succeed anywhere they go,” he said when officiating at the launching of Mara Entrepreneurs Association (Pusmas) Sibu recently.

Dr Annuar, who is Nangka assemblyman, said ample assistance is provided to Bumiputera traders in his constituency, citing the many shops and stalls in villages in Nangka that have been restored under a RM1-million allocation from the Sarawak government.

“There is another RM500,000 approved for buying equipment for those who want to start their own businesses. My objective is to help our Bumiputera entrepreneurs to increase their income,” he added.

Also present at the function were Pusmas Sibu chairman Selohi @ Sarbini Awai and Mara Sibu officer Mohd Razib Mohd Tahir.
