DAP Batu Kitang wants to know what’s going on in schools

-

KUCHING: DAP Batu Kitang branch will be going to the ground to meet teachers, parent-teacher associations ( PTAs) and school management boards under its jurisdiction.

Its chairman Abdul Aziz Isa said they would be getting feedback from them in regards to the condition of schools, infrastructure issues, basic facilities and so on, after which the information would be passed on to DAP Sarawak chairman Chong Chieng Jen, who is also Stampin MP.

“Once we have obtained the feedback we will decide what to do with them – whether they (schools) need more buildings, schools need to be repainted or they need more allocation for sports activities, upgrading of football field and so on,” he told a press conference at their party’s headquarters here yesterday.

There are 13 schools under Batu Kitang constituency and 28 schools under Stampin, all of which are under the Padawan District Education Office.

Aziz, who is also Chong’s special assistant, said Chong gave a grant of RM50,000 to the Padawan District School Headmasters Council ( MGBS) recently.

“This is the first time the council has received such a huge sum from the federal government and they were so surprised to receive it in less than a month after the request was made.”

He said this proved that the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) government was very efficient in allocating funds to the people, and there was no reason for them to hold back funding as it is the ‘people’s money’.

He also hoped that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government would not politicise issues regarding education.

“If they have the money, they should allocate them to schools rather than misleading the public by saying the federal government is not caring enough in education matter.”
