SMK Batu Kawa champion of Consumer Explorace
KUCHING: SMK Batu Kawa and SMK Kuching High which are champion and runner-up respectively of a Consumer Explorace, School Consumerism Clubs 2019 challenge will represent the southern zone at the state-level challenge scheduled for April 2019.
The challenge is an annual event, organised by Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs, together with Sarawak Education Department since 2010. The event is participated by 13 schools in and around Kuching for the southern zone this year.
The schools are SMK Semerah Padi, SMKA Sheikh Haji Othman AbdulWahab,SMKTunAbangHaji Openg, SMK Matang Jaya, SMK Batu Kawa, SMK Kuching High, SMK Bandar Kuching No 1, SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud (Asajaya), SMK Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Gapor (Stampin), SMK St Thomas, SMK Pending, SMK St Mary and SMK Muara Tuang ( Kota Samarahan).
The ministry’s consumer section ( Sarawak) head Marrianee Jemlin said the aim of the challenge was to educate, disseminate information and create consumerism awareness among students through a new integrated approach.
It also strengthens consumerism and implement activities focusing on consumerism, prudent financial management, healthy diet, protect and preserve the environment, she said at the closing and prizegiving ceremony at the Wisma Bapa Malaysia recreational park here, yesterday.
She added the event, which started at 8am yesterday, was part of the students’ co- curricular activities.
Meanwhile, SMK Batu Kawa took home RM200 for being the champion while SMK Kuching High took home RM160 for coming in second. The third placed winner took home RM120.
Sarawak Education Department assistant coordinator, Sa’aidi Julai, was also present at the event.
