Players urged to do their best at MSSM C’ships

Sarawak contingent­s all set for volleyball, handball tournament­s

SARIKEI: Sarawak Schools Sports Council ( MSS Sarawak) is sending teams to participat­e in the MSSM volleyball and handball competitio­ns in the Peninsular Malaysia from March 23 to 30.

The volleyball squad, comprising 48 players, will compete in the MSSM Volleyball Championsh­ip in Selangor.

Meanwhi le, a 22- member handball team will fly the Sarawak f lag at the MSSM Handbal l Championsh­ip in Perak.

State Education Department deputy director Abang Mat Ali Abang Matsagus has urged all the players to give their best in every match.

The deputy MSSS chairman also told the contingent­s to adopt the ‘Agi Hidup Agi Ngelaban’ battle cry to boost their fighting spirit.

“The squad s h ave b e en doing quite wel l in previous championsh­ips, but this year, we hope a better result from them,” he said during the flag handing- over ceremony at Sarikei Innovation Centre (SIC) on Wednesday.

On hand to receive the flags were contingent heads Ismail Abang Mahmud ( handball) and Samsul Alam Shamsuddin (volleyball).

Both squads will depart to their respective competitio­n’s venues today.

Meanwhile, Sarikei District Education Officer Law Ngie Tung, who is also head of Sarikei division School sports Council thanked the MSS Sarawak for selecting Sarikei as the centralise­d training venue for both the volleyball and handball teams.

“And it was also the pride of Sarikei and Meradong District to have 22 of its players in the volleyball squad,” he added.
