PSB rubbishes various reports in social media on party

-

KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) yesterday denied it is in cahoot with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) president Tun Dr Mahathir Mohammad who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman to split the votes of the Chinese and Dayaks.

“There is a circulation of fake news in social media alleging that Parti Sarawak Bersatu is secretly backed by Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Attached to the fake news is a photo of PSB leaders taken with Tun Dr Mahathir in his office,” said PSB in a statement signed by its president Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh.

PSB said it categorically denied that Dr Mahathir is controlling or in any way behind it.

“The allegations that PSB is trying to ‘auction Sarawak’ and to sell out the Dayaks and split the Chinese is pure nonsense fabricated by interested parties and their cyber-troopers with the intention to bring down PSB.”

PSB said the fake news used a photo of PSB leaders with Tun Dr Mahathir in his office.

That photo was taken during a courtesy visit on Sept 21 last year.

To drive its point home PSB also attached, to its press release, a copy of the original photo that was used in the fake news together with another photo taken on the same date.

“Prior to the visit to the Prime Minister, PSB President YB Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh had informed Sarawak Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Haji Openg and obtained his blessing to go. Therefore, it was not a secret visit to hatch some plot to auction Sarawak as alleged.”

The authors of the fake news should have done their homework before attempting to fabricate such rubbish, PSB said.
