Eatery owners asked to support Visit Sarawak with clean loos

KUCHING: Eatery outlet owners in Sarawak have been asked to do their part to support the Visit Sarawak Campaign by keeping their premises, including the toilets, clean.

Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian said it is not enough to just maintain the cleanliness of the dining area.

“The Sarawak government has launched the Visit Sarawak Campaign and we want to see operators of food premises collaborate with us in giving a good impression to our visitors.

“Even though the Sarawak government is spending money on various programmes such as landscape beautification projects for the Visit Sarawak Campaign, we hope food premises operators can play their role to maintain cleanliness.

“And especially the toilets, which must be clean in order to leave a good impression on those visiting Sarawak,” Dr Sim said when opening Hawker Times at Trinity Hub, Jalan Datuk Tawi Sli.

He also called on the food industry to embrace the digital economy.

Dr Sim pointed out that traders in China no longer accepted cash or credit card payments.

“To them, these types of payments are obsolete. They now go for scan and pay. In Sarawak, I hope we all support Sarawak Pay – go cashless,” he said.

“Scan and pay is the trend now. Like it or not, we have to transform to meet the current and future needs. Even my mother, in her 70s, has learnt to shop online.”
