‘Kuching Heritage Week a great platform for cultural, tourism promotions’

-

KUCHING: The ongoing Kuching Heritage Week is set to promote some of the historically and culturally rich sites across the city.

According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, the event also serves to promote the city’s tourist attractions, which are located mostly at Jalan Satok, Gambier Road, Main Bazaar and the way up to Jalan Padungan.

“We have also upgraded some of the facilities in these areas. Recently, we opened the new Masjid Bandaraya ( Floating Mosque), which is one of the main attractions within the Kuching Heritage site,” he said at the ‘Muda Hashim Garage Sale 4.0’ along Jalan Kulas here on Saturday night.

Abang Johari also said the Sarawak government would be upgrading the facilities at the areas from the old Brooke Dockyard site all the way up to Kuching Waterfront, Kampung Masjid and Kampung Bintangor.

He also encouraged young entrepreneurs to look into trading and commercial opportunities here, as more visitors and tourists would be looking to buy souvenirs within the Kuching Heritage sites.

“They would want to buy more handicrafts and traditional cakes and food within the Heritage sites, so this is an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to venture into trading and commerce,” Abang Johari said.

He added that the Sarawak government’s initiative of introducing electric buses and hydrogen fuel cell buses would also encourage tourists to travel to these sites, as this would be more convenient.
