MIRI: Youths are encouraged to volunteer to nurture leadership, teamwork and self- discipline which would be beneficial in their future undertakings.

Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin who officiated at MRCS National Youth Camp yesterday, stressed that youths should spend more time outdoors engaging in humanitarian work with local non-profit organisations ( NGOs)

“By working with NGOs and helping those in need, they learn so much about engaging with people, communicating and working with them. Things that can only be learnt outside the classroom through co- curricular and after school activities.

“This camp provides an avenue for youths to learn and be involved in a positive activity during the school holiday,” he said while advising participants to make good use of the opportunity given.

The National Youth camp from March 25 to 28 is being held at Curtin University, Sarawak campus for 143 youths from Selangor, Penang, Melaka and Johor, Sabah, Brunei and Sarawak.

Themed ‘ Rejuvenating Youth Volunteerism for Humanitarian Actions’, it aims to bring the rich diversity of youths together to share experience and foster closer volunteer spirit. Participants interact and engage socially and culturally by living and learning together in a harmonious environment.

The camp also strives to build leadership, team development capacities and innovation through ICT and social media channels to enhance humanitarian work and improve the lives of those in need.
