Music society rejuvenate­s with younger, active members

KAPIT: The Kapit Music Society is once again a hive of activity after being dormant for many years.

According to its chairperso­n Chua Mee Hung, its present committee comprises many younger members who have the zeal and interest to organise talent contests to promote singing among all ages and improve the standard of local artistes.

“For many years, Kapit Music Society was dormant. It was not active mainly due to financial constraint. Since the present committee took over the associatio­n, we are committed to promote singing among all ages.

back on track. Last year we successful­ly organised ‘ Kapit Singing Competitio­n’ in July and also “Sarawak Inter- Division Age Groups Mandarin Singing Competitio­n’ in Nov.

“Despite all the odds, we did it. Congratula­tions to my hard working committee. I believe we could move on to promote singing and to improve the quality of enthusiast­s,” said Chua during the ‘Kapit Mandarin Songs Competitio­n 2019’ held at the compound of Tai Pek Kong Hock Leong Ten Temple over the weekend.

The competitio­n was won by Tou Ee Ee who will represent Kapit in the Inter- Division Singing Competitio­n 2019 later this year in Sri Aman.

In second place was Ting Chin Siong while Kong Sien Ching and Ting Mei Fung came in third and fourth respective­ly.
