UCTS, companies sign MoA to study ‘kelulut’ honey, propolis

SIBU: University College of Technology Sarawak ( UCTS) has started to venture into the production of ‘ propolis kelulut’ and honey harvesting after signing a memorandum of agreement ( MoA) with Simpulan Emas Sdn Bhd and Need Lee Enterprise here last Wednesday ( March 20).

The agreement between the parties is for a collaborat­ive research project, particular­ly on ‘ kelulut’ ( stingless bees) honey and propolis.

UCTS was represente­d at the signing ceremony by its vice- chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Khairuddin Abdul Hamid while Simpulan Emas by managing director Yong Hue Lee and Need Lee by managing director Tiang Need Lee.

“The MoA is a good opportunit­y for UCTS researcher­s to carry out studies on the ‘kelulut’ industry. At the same time, we hope this can improve UCTS research output and university-industry collaborat­ion.

“We are very happy and thankful to them for choosing us to work together in this kelulut research,” Khairuddin said when speaking at the ceremony.

UCTS School of Postgradua­te Studies dean Assoc Prof Dr Hii Siew Ling, Centre for Research and Developmen­t director Prof Dr Salfarina Abdul Gapor and University Courses Services Centre director Associate Prof Dr Thomas Moh Shan Yau witnessed the MoA signing.
