Indonesia targets to have 1.4 mln tourists from Sarawak this year

KUCHING: The Ministry of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia is targeting 1.4 million tourists from Sarawak this year, out of the anticipate­d 2.9 million from Malaysia.

According to the ministry’s assistant deputy director Novi Rahayu, the target can be achieved with the Festival Wonderful Indonesia ( FWI) 2019 being organised in the country.

She said the FWI 2019 will become a platform to intensivel­y promote the tourism industry in Indonesia to Malaysia.

“For the event ( FWI 2019) that we have here in Malaysia, we will promote tourist destinatio­ns in Indonesia and will become a platform to intensify tourism industry in Malaysia and Indonesia, so with this event we are targeting about 1.4 million tourists from Sarawak from the total 2.9 million tourists from Malaysia,” she told a press conference at Waterfront Hotel here yesterday.

Novi said the FWI 2019 promotion in Kuching from March 29 until 31 will showcase Indonesian music, crafts and food, adding that similar promotion has been held in Kuala Lumpur.

To coincide with the FWI 2019, Novi said a well-known ‘dangdut’ singer Cita Citata from Indonesia will be performing at Kuching Waterfront tomorrow from 10pm after the opening ceremony by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

Present at the conference was FWI 2019 coordinato­r Datuk Rozalixedi Wahab.
