Rep pledges to use RTP funds for access roads

-

JULAU: Meluan assemblyman Rolland Duat has promised to use his Rural Transformation Project ( RTP) funds to build access roads to longhouses and villages in the constituency.

He said due to the high costs, the initial focus would be on providing dirt roads.

Rolland said this during a groundbreaking ceremony recently for a 5km road in Ulu Mujuk, from Rumah Robert Datu, Nanga Maong to Rumah Ninting Lalak in Nanga Melup, near here.

Ways and means to gradually upgrade the roads to a tar-sealed surface in future would be looked into, he said.

Rolland called road connectivity a very vital component of the development plan for Meluan in particular and Julau in general, as roads would also lead to the provision of electricity and treated water supply.

He said after the 5km road is completed in around three months’ time, RTP funds would go towards extending the road to Rumah Entitli, about 8km away, and later to Rumah Ngalih Masir, which is located further up Mujuk River.

Rolland added the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government led by Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would continue to focus on development and improving the livelihood of all Sarawakians.

Among the around 300 present were Penghulu Robert Datu, Penghulu Belawan Gerinang, Penghulu Tading Kalang, and headmen from nine longhouses in the area.
