MIRI: The 501 Clean Up Day Miri 2019 event has received an allocation of RM21,000 from the Ministry of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change.

Organised by non-governmental organisation ( NGO) MiriMe, it will be held from 8am to 10am on May 1.

“The programme is fi rst held to create long-term awareness to clean and preserve the environment within the community,” Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon told a press conference here yesterday.

“Those who we are hoping to get involved are government offices, schools, corporate companies, NGOs, religious groups, as well as residents in the villages and housing areas.”

He said each group taking part could choose which area to clean up.

Dr Ting said the Miri City Council ( MCC) would help to collect the rubbish that participants manage to collect.

“For recyclable waste, I have talked with companies that carry out recycling services to get their cooperation to collect these items later,” he said.

Those participating in the programme will receive waste bags, gloves, T-shirts, food, drinks, and certificates of participation.

Dr Ting added if the programme is well supported by the community, it may be held annually.
