KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) Stampin District has been called on to focus on change by developing new skills and services.

Chairman Chong Choon Chiang said this is necessary for members to work together to improve and widen their reach.

“In order to adapt to the challenges of today’s fast changing world, we need to work differently in order to reach out to more people who need our assistance,” he said during MRC Stampin District’s 21st annual general meeting (AGM) recently.

He also praised the hard work of the dedicated young volunteers and members of various organising committees for their increased involvement in community service and blood donor recruitment drives during the past year.

Chong said MRC in Sarawak has been the premium initiator of the World Health Organisation ( WHO) system of voluntary, nonremunerated blood donation and always at the forefront of running blood drives.

He thanked Chang Choon Seng, who stepped down from the district committee after 15 years of service as vice- chairman, treasurer, and MRC Stampin District finance and investment committee chairman.

MRC Stampin District building project committee chairman Jammy Chia Chiau Tei was appointed to take Chang’s place.

The committee also thanked outgoing treasurer Jong Min Kee and outgoing committee member Teng Long Hong, who has moved to Selangor. They were replaced by Jeffery Goh and Kenny Kueh Chow Wee respectively.

The meeting also endorsed the appointment of Peter Kong Sing Hock, an MRC veteran and qualified MRC instructor from MRC Sibu District, who has settled down in Kuching, to fill the vacancy of officer-incharge of training, while James Bong Chien Wee and Connie Tan Lee Choo filled vacancies as committee members for the term 2019 to 2020.

The AGM also approved the purchase of a new ambulance this year to address the increasing demand for nonemergency ambulance services for bedridden patients seeking outpatient treatment, and the new mobility equipment loan service for disabled persons to be implemented this year.
