MRC Sarikei presents excellence awards

SARIKEI: Malaysian Red Crescent Sarikei District presented excellence awards to members after its recent annual general meeting (AGM).

Most Outstandin­g Member awards went to Die Tiong Huang ( Voluntary Aid Detachment 37); Shirley Lau Sim Ee ( SMK St Anthony Sarikei); and Pat Siew Chieng ( SMK Kai Chung Bintangor).

SMK Tinggi Sarikei won the best school youth unit annual report for 2018.

SMK St Anthony Sarikei, which represente­d MRC Sarikei District for the Sarawak-level Inter District First Aider Competitio­n on Feb 22-24 in Kuching and emerged as first runner-up also received recognitio­n.

Yap Kok Wei – who won the best youth leader award during the same competitio­n – and team members Andrew Wong Pak Min, Grace Ling Jia Xin, Patrick Wong Jian Wei, and Jordan Lau Yee Siang also received certificat­es of appreciati­on.

Although Sarawak, and Sarikei District in particular, had been spared of major disasters, he said MRC as an active humanitari­an organisati­on is always prepared to mobilise its response team.

He suggested the district strive to strengthen the organisati­onal set up and improve in matters such as governance, management, volunteer recruitmen­t and developmen­t, service delivery and funding, which are vital to remain relevant to meet the high expectatio­ns of society.
