Bintulu 21km run 2019 hopes to attract 2000 runners

BINTULU: Registrati­on is still open for the 4th Bintulu 21KM Run to be held on July 21 which be flagged off at Wisma Bintulu.

The run which offers a total prize money of RM30,000 is organised by Bintulu Developmen­t Authority ( BDA) in col laboration with Bintulu Resident’s Office with technical support of DNA Sports in partnershi­p with Borneo Plux.

BDA general manager Rodziah Morshidi said the run will be divided into 21KM, 10KM, 5KM and Kid/ Family Run with 20 subcategor­ies.

The flag-off for 21KM is at 5.15am; 6am for 10KM and 6.30am for 5KM while the Kid/ Family Run will be held on July 20 at 5pm.

A total of RM17,500 cash prize is up for grabs for 100 winners in the 21KM event, RM9,500 for 100 winners in the 10KM and there will also be special awards for four

overall champion and four most senior runners.

According to Rodziah for this year’s run targets to attract about 2,000 runners and to- date almost 600 participan­ts have been registered.

“BDA and our partners have been organising this event since 2016 and so far we have receive a good response and positive feedback from previous runners.

“The run event will be using digital timing chip system and the run routes are covered by lighting and under partial road closed for the safety of our runners,” she said during a press conference yesterday.

For the record she said, in the first run, a total of 1,028 runners were registered, and the numbers increased in the following years with 1,159 runners in 2017 and 1,482 in 2018.

Rodziah said this run is also part of activities to mark Sarawak Independen­ce Day on July 22 and Visit Sarawak Year 2019.

“Our aim is to promote healthy activity, to encourage more sport event, promote Bintulu sport tourism, promote clean and healthy Bintulu and promote plogging culture,” she said.
