New Miri associatio­n to organise art and crafts exhibition

MIRI: The recently registered Persatuan Pelukis dan Seni Visual Miri (PPSVM) or Associatio­n of Artists and Visual Arts Miri will organise a two-day exhibition and sale of their artwork and crafts in conjunctio­n with the launch of the associatio­n on April 6.

Its president, Noel Bululok, said Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin will officiate at the launch. Among those expected to be present are local dignitarie­s including Piasau assemblyma­n Datuk Sebastian Ting and senior officials from both the public and corporate sectors.

“We also encourage the public to come and support our event including buying our artworks and crafts, part of the proceeds will also go for charity to assist some needy patients and also raising funds for our associatio­n to carry out our activities,” he added yesterday.

He also disclosed that the associatio­n, being new and nonprofit making, needs funds to carry out activities in line with its objectives of promoting greater appreciati­on of arts and craft and also to make Miri a vibrant city.

The two-day event on April 6 and 7 (9am to 5pm), which will be organised jointly with Pustaka Negeri Sarawak Miri, will showcase artwork by 16 artists while 18 others will showcase their crafts.

It will start after the launch of the associatio­n in the morning at Pustaka Miri. Admission is free.

“Public too are encouraged to attend the launch ceremony starting at 9am where there will be silat performanc­e, live sape music performanc­e and demonstrat­ions on arts and crafts, tattoo as well as on traditiona­l Kuih Jala,” said Noel.

PPSVM was registered by Registrar of Societies on Oct 9, 2018.
