Tegas roadshow exposes youth to educational opportunities

-

BETONG: Tabung Ekonomi Gagasan Anak Bumiputera Sarawak ( TEGAS) launched its fifth Project of Dreams Realised (Pro-DR) Roadshow 2019 yesterday at Panglima Rentap Betong community hall.

Engkilili assemblyman Dr Johnichal Rayong Ngipa officiated at the function.

Also present was TEGAS chief operations officer Awangku Merali Pengiran Mohamed, community leaders, school principles, teachers, and parents.

In his speech, Johnichal said that the roadshow was the largest educational programme in Sarawak and will last for three weeks.

“The roadshow is catered especially for SPM and STPM leavers as well as towards youths and students throughout the state to provide information on tertiary education, training and scholarships.

“For this year, 45 institutions and agencies have participated in this roadshow, and I believe that amassing them in this roadshow is not an easy task considering the challenging logistical conditions of the state,” he added.

He also commended TEGAS for organising the roadshow yearly since its introduction on 2015.

Johnichal said that Pro- DR Roadshow is designed to provide students and youths at rural areas the chance to further their education and choose courses that suits their interests.

“A lot of students have wrongly chosen their courses or failed to make a wise decision which resulted in poor performance forcing some of them to quit their studies.

“What saddens me the most is that they will have a hard time competing in the job market, and due to this they have wasted their time, money and the opportunity to have a better job in the future.”

He urged SPM and STPM leavers to seek advice from the counselors and promoters during the roadshow on the courses offered.

Johnichal also urged the youths to visit Mini Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Playground which takes place in conjunction with the roadshow.

“It is an interactive exhibition with concepts of creativity and innovation to instill STEM to students alongside fun and exciting learning experiences,” he added.

The Project of Dreams Realised ( Pro- DR) Roadshow is the first of its kind mobile roadshow in Sarawak.

According to its website www. tegas.org.my, this is TEGAS’ effort to reach out to students in rural areas to give them equal opportunities to further their studies.
