KUCHING: The ‘ Malam Dua Budaya’ ( Night of Two Cultures) concert proved the highlight of the Nightly Heritage Shows organised by Kuching North City Commission ( DBKU) in conjunction with Old Kuching Smart Heritage Agenda (OKSHe).

The concert, held Saturday at Kuching Waterfront, witnessed a mix of local and Indonesian artistes, including famous ‘dangdut’ singer Cita Citata, performing in front of honoured guests and audiences.

Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, Datuk Bandar of Kuching North Datuk Abang Abdul Wahap Abang Julai, Ministry of Tourism Indonesia ( Kemenpar) director Adella Raung and Consulate General of Indonesia in Kuching Yoni Tri Prayitno were among the honoured guests.

In his speech, Abdul Karim said the concert, along with the ‘Wonderful Indonesia’ branding, has helped boost the promotion for both Sarawak and Indonesia as ideal tourism destinations.

“Members of the public as well as tourists are able to witness cultures from both the state and Indonesia, thanks to the efforts by cultural troupes from both ministries and exhibitions of Indonesian handicrafts.

“This in turn will bring both Sarawak and Indonesia closer,” he said.

Meanwhile, a recent press statement said that the ‘Malam Dua Budaya’ concert was a platform to have a cultural bilateral cooperation between Sarawak and Indonesia in promoting cultural arts from both regions.

“Kemenpar through its ‘ Wonderful Indonesia’ branding supported the event in order to promote Indonesian culture to members of the public, and this initiative was also backed by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports,” the statement added.
