Need to speed up work on new block of Miri Hospital — Ling
MIRI: Pakatan Harapan ( PH) Sarawak is keen for construction work on the RM340 million new building block for Miri Hospital to commence by end of the year.
Its secretary Senator Alan Ling said an additional 324 beds is needed as the hospital is getting more congested with the increasing population.
“We hope the project will be awarded soon to the contractor after the March 19 briefing. The project has been scheduled to be completed in three to four years’ time,” he stated when officiating at 2019 Miri Hospital Dinner in Imperial Palace Hotel on Saturday.
Ling congratulated the hospital for obtaining Malaysian Society for Quality In Health ( MSQH) accreditation 2019.
“This shows the confidence of MSQH surveyors in the excellent quality and safety elements of your patient care.” The latest was the fifth cycle of accreditation process as the hospital had achieved four previous cycles from 2001 until 2012.
“In such a complex hospital where many services interact with one another, it takes discipline, commitment and creative minds to solve all the challenges you face. Well done, you have embraced the power to change,” he added.
The senator also reminded the hospital management on the power of digital technology to make their services more efficient and effective.
“For your information, a Memorandum of Understanding ( MoU) between Collaborative Research in Engineering, Science and Technology (CREST) and the Ministry of Health ( MOH) was inked last year to revolutionise digital healthcare in Malaysia.
“There will be collaboration in Research & Development & Commercialisation ( R& D& C) focusing on digital innovation in healthcare delivery and solutions, joint cluster development activities, industry network engagement, manufacturing alliance, talent development and digital health innovation hubs,” he disclosed.
“The government is committed to collaborate with all the stakeholders to realise cost effective, quality healthcare solutions and services using IoT to complement the National Healthcare Transformation in providing equitable, affordable and accessible high-quality health services to the people.”
Ling announced a federal government grant worth RM3,000 to support the Miri Hospital’s Sepital Sejahtera Club.
Also present was Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong Siew Yu.
