Man gets four months for stealing items belonging to his mother

MIRI: The magistrate’s court here yesterday sentenced a man to four months’ jail for concealing property – a grass cutter and one set of ‘ My TV’ which he had stolen from his mother.

Magistrate Zuraini Ali Musa meted the penalties after taking into account several factors including the man’s guilty plea, the seriousnes­s of the offence and public interest.

Andyson Tan Wong @ Wesley, 34, from Taman Bumiko here was charged under Section 414 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term of not less than six months and not more than seven years and a fine upon conviction.

According to the brief facts of the case, the accused was found to have deliberate­ly hid the property belonging to his mother, Margret Serudah Mujah.

He committed the offence at 9pm on March 25 at the family’s home in Taman Bumiko here.

ASP Koay Kok Ping prosecuted the case while the accused was not represente­d.

Meanwhile in another magistrate’s court, Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie sentenced an unemployed man to five months’ jail and RM1,000 fine in default one month jail for stealing a RM830 saw belonging to Kaya Rasin.

The court ordered the sentence to take effect from the date of the accused’s arrest on March 23.

Joseph Rickey Jugah, 26, from Pujut Corner here pleaded guilty the charge under Section 380 of the Penal Code which carries a jail sentence of up to 10 years and a fine, upon conviction.

The accused committed the offence with another who is still at large, at 4am on March 8 at a rented house in Pujut Corner here.

ASP Mary Ong prosecuted while the accused was not represente­d.
