RM2,000 fine for criminal intimidati­on of 55 year-old woman

MIRI: A man was fined RM2,000 in default two months jail by the Magistrate’s Court here for criminal intimidati­on against a senior woman.

Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md. Hilmie imposed the penalties after Unggang George, 32, from Kampung Senadin here pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 506 of the Penal Code.

If convicted, the accused can be jailed up to seven years or fined or both.

According to brief facts of the case, the accused had threatened to kill Lungkang Liong, 55, at 11am on March 25 at a house in Kampung Senadin here.

The accused, who was not represente­d by defence counsel, appealed for a lighter sentence as it was his first offence and he was sorry for his action in failing to control his anger.

Prosecutin­g was ASP Mary Ong.

In the same court, a man was charged with two counts of voluntaril­y causing injuries on two women.

Stevyen Pengiran Liwe, 28, from Pujut 8 here was charged under Section 326 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence of up to 20 years and fine or whipping, upon conviction.

Based on the charges, the accused had voluntaril­y injured Rumi Jamal, 43, using a plastic chair at 1am, January 20 this year at a house in Kampung Merapak Pujut 8, Jalan Pujut 8 here.

The accused also faced another charge under Section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntaril­y causing injury to Chemeling Engom, 49, using a plastic chair at the same time and place. No plea of guilt was recorded. Prosecutor ASP Mary Ong applied for a new date for further mention of the case and the court fixed April 3 (today) for further mention of the case at the Sessions Court and ordered the accused to be released on RM7,000 bail with one local surety pending the date.
