Lukanisman concerned about dengue outbreak in Taman Tunku, Kpg Lusut area
MIRI: Sibuti MP Lukanisman Awang Sauni said there is a need to declare war on aedes mosquitoes to stop the dengue outbreak in Taman Tunku and Kampung Lusut area here.
Expressing concern over the spike in dengue cases in these residential areas, he said urgent action by the authorities and the affected residents must be taken to prevent the spread of the disease.
The MP said he had recently received many WhatsApp messages on the outbreak in these two areas, adding that a concerted effort by both the authorities and the public is important in combating this menace.
He advised the public to keep their premises free of aedes breeding grounds to stop the mosquitoes from spreading and infecting people with the dengue fever.
He also requested Miri City Council ( MCC) to take action on public complaints regarding abandoned houses in the neighbourhood that have become mosquito breeding grounds and to ensure that drains are properly maintained to prevent them from holding stagnant water.
Lukanisman said the residents, particularly house owners, should also take their own initiative in clearing mosquito breeding grounds instead of waiting for the local authorities to do the job, such as by having ‘gotong royong’ to clean up their areas.
The Health Department and District Office also play an important role in educating the people on preventing dengue disease, he added.
On his part, he said he would request for more mosquito fogging operations by MCC.
“Combating dengue is a neverending war. To have the upper hand in this war, the government at national level and state level must join forces to invest in a new method and technology to tackle dengue effectively,” he said.
