Anti-rabies op in Padawan from April 4 to 8

SERIAN: The phase II of antirabies operation to cover Padawan area will run from April 4 to 8.

The operation will cover three zones; Zone A ( Matang to Batu Kawah area), Zone B (Kota Sentosa to Kota Padawan), and Zone C (Siburan, Jalan Link and villages along Jalan Borneo Height and Padawan area).

For Zone A, the operation will run from April 4 to 5; Zone B and Zone C on April 6 and 7, and April 8, respective­ly.

The operation will involve staff from State Veterinary Services Department ( SVSD), Health Department, Police and Padawan Municipal council, among others.

A briefing on rabies awareness was held with community leaders at Siburan community hall yesterday, and among topics discussed were on rabies and prevention measures presented by doctors from SVSD and Health Department.

Talk on the ‘dos and don’ts’ during the entire operation was also presented by an officer from Padawan District police station.

Those who try to disrupt the operation will be dealt with under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Padawan sub- district SAOS Rangen Jamang, who represente­d Kuching District Officer at the closing ceremony, said the operation would see 22 teams visiting every village and housing estate in the three zones.

Meanwhile, Phase I of the antirabies has been carried out in Bau and Lundu districts.

So far, 62 areas have been declared rabies-infected areas with the latest being Kpg Tembirat in Samarahan Division.

The disease has so far claimed 16 lives since the outbreak started in Serian in July 2017.
