KAPIT: B u k i t G o r am assemblyman Jefferson Jamit has lauded the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) for taking seriously issues pertaining to the supply of water here.

He said a recent high-powered meeting here, which was attended by JBALB director Chang Kuet Shian and senior officers from Kuching, showed the department was serious in tackling waterrelated woes that have plagued Kapit folk for many years.

Indeed, I am very happy that JBALB is serious in looking at ways to overcome the shortage of water supply as well as supply of clean water to consumers in and around Kapit.

“Indeed, I am very happy that JBALB is serious in looking at ways to overcome the shortage of water supply as well as supply of clean water to consumers in and around Kapit.

“The meeting is a positive step towards finding a long-term solution to the issue, and I hope remedial actions would be taken soon.

“The sooner we solve the water woes in Kapit, the better it would be for everyone,” he said when contacted yesterday.

According to Jamit, the meeting was a fol low- up to a March 13 working visit by Assistant Minister of Water Supply Datuk Liwan Lagang to Kapit Water Treatment Plant in Nanga Man, where Chang was also present.

“Due to t he i ncr easi ng population of Kapit resulting from rural-to-urban migration, the demand for water has increased rapidly.

“The most important thing now is to expand the existing capacity of the water treatment plant, as well as build two more high- level water storage tanks – one at Jalan Bukit Goram and another at Jalan Selirik,” said Jamit.
