Poster design, eco-handicraft DIY contests to mark ‘Love Earth Day 2019’

SIBU: An inter- school poster design contest will be held at SMK Methodist here on April 20 as one of the activities to mark ‘Love Earth Day 2019’.

The contest is jointly organised by Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), the Sibu district education office and SMK Methodist.

Love Earth Day organising chairman, Lai Chiong Ann, during a press conference said the contest aimed to heighten awareness among the public, particular­ly school children, of the importance of protecting the environmen­t.

SMC chairman Datuk Tiong Thai King was also present at the press conference here yesterday.

“The contest is open to secondary school students and divided into Category A ( Lower Forms) and Category B ( Upper Forms). The theme for Category A is ‘Keep Sibu Clean and Beautiful’ while for Category B ‘Protect Our Species’,” said Lai, who is SMC councillor at a press conference yesterday.

The contest wi l l run from 9.30am-11.30am. Each school is allowed to send a maximum of 10 students.

The Category B champion will take home RM300 while the first and second runners-up will receive RM250 and RM200 respective­ly.

Five consolatio­n prizes of RM100 each and 10 honorable mention prizes of RM50 each will also be presented.

Category A champion wil l receive RM250 while the first and second runners-up will get RM200 and RM150 respective­ly.

There wi l l a lso be f ive consolatio­n prizes of RM75 each and 10 honorable mention prizes of RM40 each.

Meanwhile, the council is also rolling out ‘ Eco-Handicraft DIY Contest’ for primary school pupils on April 21 at SJK( C) Chung Hua.

The council is organising the contest in collaborat­ion with Sibu district education office and SJK ( C) Chung Hua as an activity to mark ‘Love Earth Day 2019’.

The contest is divided into Category A (for Primary 1- 3) and Category B ( Primary 4- 6).

Al l par t icipants i n t his contest will get a certificat­e of participat­ion.

Category B will offer RM200, RM150, and RM100 to the top three contestant­s respective­ly.

There wi l l a lso be f ive consolatio­n prizes of RM75 each and 10 honorable mention prizes of RM50 each.

Category A meanwhile offers RM150, RM100 and RM75 to the winner, first runner-up and second runner-up respective­ly.

There wi l l a lso be f ive consolatio­n prizes of RM50 each and 10 honorable mention prizes of RM30 each.

Entry forms for both contests must be submitted to Level 20, Wisma Sanyan or fax to 084-320240 by April 12 at the latest.
