S’wak Hornbills play host to Kun Ming cagers

KUCHING: The Kun Ming Sister City Recreation­al Club basketball team are in town for a five- day visit to strengthen the cordial relationsh­ips with their counterpar­ts in Sarawak the Sarawak Hornbills ( Veterans) Basketball Club.

The 22- member contingent including 14 veteran cagers is led by Duan Fu Rong. They attended a welcoming dinner hosted by Sarawak Hornbills Basketball Club honorary president and advisor Dato Richard Wee Liang Chiat at a local Chinese restaurant last Sunday.

After playing a friendly match with their counterpar­ts in Kuala Lumpur last week, the Kun Ming team played a friendly match with Sarawak Hornbill veterans on Monday at the Kota Sentosa Basketball Associatio­n Indoor Basketball Court.

Sarawak Hornbills Basketball club chairman Ting Tiong Hook invited them to visit tourist spots in the city and bring home fond memories of their visit.

He said the exchange was one way of making friends and further strengthen­ing ties between both clubs and the people of Malaysia and China.

Meanwhile, Duan, who is also chairman of the Asia Veteran Basketball Club, thanked the hosts for their hospitalit­y and invited Sarawak Hornbi l ls Basketball Club to send a team to compete in the 7th Asia Veteran Basketbal l Championsh­ip in Yunan, China this year.

Also present at the dinner were Sarawak Hornbills Basketball Club honorary president Michael Teo Kim Huat, president Chai Chang Hui, deputy president Chua Seng Chai and invited guests.
