Better coverage for Kpg Sg Tapang folk, thanks to Digi, Trienekens
KUCHING: Digi Telecommunications Sdn Bhd is collaborating with Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd to provide connectivity to Kampung Sungai Tapang.
Digi in a press release said the initiative is one of the ways to answer the Sarawak government’s call through Sarawak Multimedia Authority ( SMA) to develop and move under-served communities towards a digital economy.
Residents of Kampung Sungai Tapang suffer from poor coverage due to their proximity to Kuching Internation Airport, with many having to spend their time at the airport perimeter road daily after 6pm as it is the only area with good coverage.
Trienekens CEO Stephen Chin, meanwhile, said the company is always looking for ways to contribute to the community in Sungai Tapang, where its head office and depot is located.
“Previously, we worked on improving the village’s amenities and raising environmental awareness in the school. Our recent discussions with the village residents revealed that they were experiencing network connectivity problems in the area.
“It is our pleasure to partner with Digi, who responded quickly to our request to provide the residents with the necessary connectivity to raise their quality of living and ensure their safety as well,” he said.
The collaboration is part of Digi’s efforts and commitment to provide connectivity to more Malaysians across the country through its robust 4G Plus network.
“We are grateful for this opportunity to set up a base station to provide coverage for the village residents. Digi is constantly looking for ways to enrich our customers’ lives as we work towards bridging the digital gap in such areas,” said Casper Goh, who is Digi’s head of Sarawak Region.
To mark the collaboration, Digi and Trienekens coorganised several fun activities for the residents to enjoy over the weekend.
Residents also got to enjoy special subsidies for each phone bundle sold and for Digi line registration during the event, courtesy of Trienekens.
