Stamps featuring bees help highlight bee conservati­on

KUALA LUMPUR : Pos Malaysia Berhad ( Pos Malaysia) will issue a new stamp series featuring bees to instill public awareness on the importance of proper honey harvesting and conservati­on to ensure bees don’t become extinct.

“Honey Bees in Malaysia stamp series would be on sale starting from April 9,” said Pos Malaysia’s Stamp and Philately Unit head Diyana Lean Abdullah during a media briefing session at Dayabumi Complex, here yesterday.

The honey bee species highlighte­d for this stamp series are the Apis Dorsata (Lebah Tualang), Apis Cerana ( Lebah Kampung) and Apis Andrenifor­mis ( Lebah Kerdil Hitam).

“There will be a total of 600,000 pieces ( 200,000 per design) produced for this series.

Each stamp sheet is worth RM12 and contains 20 pieces of stamps.

“In addition, Pos Malaysia will be issuing 22,000 Miniature Sheet (MS) featuring the Kelulut queen bee, male bee as well as the worker bee ( Heterotrig­ona Itama) and 27,000 First Day Covers (FDC) with free brochure,” she told the media.

According to Diyana, the complete folder set worth RM52.80 each comprising of stamp sheets, MS and FDC can be purchased via www.eziemall.com or the nearest Pos Malaysia Outlets or Dayabumi Complex.

“The public are encouraged to sign- up for the Standing Order Deposit Account ( SODA) to experience a hassle-free process in purchasing the latest stamp issues and enjoy exclusive benefits offered by SODA,” she said.
