It said academics from Curtin Malaysia’s Faculty of Engineering and Science would facilitate a technical seminar on Sarawak’s O& G resources on the first day, covering Sarawak’s geological and geophysical attributes and prospects in O& G, as well as advances in technology and the latest developments in O& G related research.
On the second day, academics from its Faculty of Business would facilitate a roundtable and workshop on managing SMEs in the O& G industry.
Expert panellists from the university would also discuss technological, management and academic issues in various forums during the event, while its marketing team would operate an exhibition booth on its academic programmes, particularly in petroleum engineering, applied geology and postgraduate studies.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg would officiate at the closing ceremony this April 14, with a seminar resolution and action plan drafted by participants to be presented to the chief minister.
Recently, a dialogue with the organisers was held at Curtin Malaysia Campus here, where Curtin Malaysia’s nine-member delegation was led by its deputy pro vice- chancellor Prof Beena Giridharan, while SOGSE 2019 organising committee, DUBS and SPG representatives was led by co- chairman Hamim Yusuf, who is also SPG past-president.
According to Hamim, SOGSE 2019 would provide participants the opportunity to network and exchange ideas with highlyinf luential decision- makers and thought- leaders shaping Sarawak’s O& G development.
Highlights of the event would include experience- sharing by Sarawak O& G professionals and international guest speakers, showcases of O& G companies and businesses, as well as exhibition booths by various partner organisations.
In her remarks, Giridharan said Curtin Malaysia, as a Sarawak government- owned entity, fully supports Sarawak’s ambitions to rapidly progress its economy and thus, the event should serve as an excellent opportunity for the university to showcase what it has to offer in support of the O& G sector.
“Curtin Malaysia aims to be an industry hub for the O& G sector, leveraging on its very strong petroleum engineering and applied geology programmes and expertise for industrial research and human capital development.
“Collaboration at the hub will include sharing common facilities such as test labs, and providing access to the university’s live stock market trading room where SME contractors can learn to manage their financial portfolios and track the global O& G markets,” she said.
