KUCHING: The inaugural DGCC Inter-Team Match Play Golf Tournament starting from today has attracted 22 teams from Kuching and Samarahan.

Damai Golf and Country Club ( DGCC) general manager Roslan Mohd Salleh who announced this, said the tournament is using the ‘ Texas Scramble’ format which is the first of its kind to be used by the club.

“The response towards this event is encouraging and we had to increase the number of entries from 16 to 22 in order to accommodate the large number of entries which are coming from the local golfers from the various golf clubs,” he said.

Roslan added the main objective of the event was to provide the local golfing community with a new concept of competition which is popular in Western countries and to enable the teams to compete with one another in an interesting league format.

“We had the official draw recently and the respective teams captains also came for final briefing which was followed by the handing over of championship trophy by the sponsor,” he said.

“We hope this wi l l be a successful event so that it can be organised annually and on a much larger scale,” Roslan said during the sponsorship handing over ceremony which was performed by Wan Saperi Wan Abdullah of Cahya Mata Malaysia.

The event is basically an interteam double knock- out event whereby all participating teams can compete with one another during the opening rounds and it is expected to be competitive because many of the top local golfers are also in the fray.
