-

KUCHING: The first ever Darul Hana Carnival will be held at Darul Hana Mosque compound on April 13, 14 and 19 with the purpose of strengthening ties among the community.

Organised by Land Custody and Development Authority ( Pelita), Kampung Seberang Hilir nongovernmental organisation and Darul Hana Mosque Committee, the three- day event will be held from 8am to 5pm.

Programmes on April 13 and 14 include an exhibition by government agencies, traditional booths competition, sports events, traditional cake making and blood donation.

Personnel from the army, police and Fire and Rescue Department are expected to perform a live demonstration during the carnival. On April 19, there will be a launching ceremony of a food bank initiative at the Darul Hana mosque, science festivals and car boot sales.

“The food bank initiative is to provide a helping hand to the less fortunate members of society with free food, and it will continue even after the carnival,” said Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at a press conference held at the Pelita office in Wisma Satok here yesterday.

Villagers are encouraged to set up booths at the carnival to showcase their artefacts and historical items as personnel from Sarawak Museum Department will visit the carnival to scout for artefacts for the Darul Hana Heritage Museum.

In addition, a Darul Hana family run will be held on April 19 with about 800 runners already registered for the event. The top 300 finishers will each receive a medal.

“The carnival is also part of the government’s effort to preserve the traditional practice and culture in society, especially among the young generation,” he said, while hoping the carnival would become an annual event.

Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg is expected to officiate at the carnival on April 13 at about 10am.
