SDAAA rallies schools in care of track & field equipment

SIBU: Sibu Division Amateur Athletic Associatio­n ( SDAAA) secretary Ting Siew Nguong stressed that strict compliance in the issue of equipment is necessary to ensure their proper maintenanc­e and longevity.

He has reminded all the sports master from schools to pay up their RM50 deposit in order to have access to the SDAAA equipment store.

“If you do not pay your deposit, you will not be able to get the key to the store from me,” he said at the SDAAA general meeting last weekend.

He had to be strict as that was the only way to ensure that the equipment at the store are properly maintained.

There were cases of equipment simply discarded after use, hence giving rise to the high rate of damages. He pointed to damaged hurdles as a particular example

“We do not want that to happen and we want to ensure that the equipment can be used by all the schools for their sport days for a long time to come,” he added.

Ting said the equipment store was started in 1996 and is more than 20 years old.

Meanwhi le, al l commit tee members of SDAAA were returned unopposed during the meeting.

Temenggong Datuk Vincent Lau retained the post of honorary president, Dr Gregory Hii as president, Lau Kah Ding as deputy president, Peter Chiu Lik Sing as Vice President 1, Radin Foji as Vice President II and Goh Kee Seng as Vice President III. Also retained were Ting as secretary and Kueh Tai Le as treasurer.

The 14 committee members are Khung Kuok Lee, Adeline Liew, Ong Yew Ming, Dolia Sim, Theng Yuk Chieng, Rosman Mat Jidin, Lau Tiew Kiong, Francis Ngu, Ling Ei Sieng, Tiong Ah Kai, Tiong Ing Hee, Wong Sing Chuon, Geraman Jengging and Tang Chung Ing.
