RTC exponents deliver best performanc­e in 10 years

SIBU: Sibu Rejang Taekwondo Club ( RTC) captured 19 gold, 15 silver and 26 bronze medals at the recent Sarawak Schools Taekwondo Championsh­ip held at SMK Methodist here.

A toal of 18 medals were won in the kyorugi (sparring) category with the rest from poomsae ( pattern).

“Thi s i s by far the best performanc­e in the 10-year history of RTC.

“We have to thank al l the coaches, students and their parents for putting their trust in us,” club secretary Thomas Tang said at last weekend’s ‘Thank You’ dinner.

The event was graced by club patron Kapitan Datuk Janet Lau.

According to Tang, all 19 gold medalists are automatica­l ly enl i sted for the upcoming Internatio­nal Borneo Chief Minister Cup’s Championsh­ip to be held in Kuching.

In the kyorugi category are Jackson Tang Yiing Haw, Jesse Harvey, John Ting Chok Leei, Ling Mee Yun, Kong Cheng Jie, Tiffany Yew Yieng Jeng, Erica Yew Yieng Qing, Crystal Lee Wan Ning, Chnthia Lee Wan Ching, Wong Si Xiang, Annie Pau Sin Yin, Tie Sing Da, Tie Ton Siong, Law Ka Hong, Ronald Hu King Onn and Alvin Wong Sing Yee.

The sole exponent in poomsae is Yong Ke Zie.

Meanwhile, Tang reminded parents to send their children to the 19 clubs affiliated to Sarawak Taekwondo Associatio­n ( PTNS).

He said PTNS is recognised by the Olympic Council of Malaysia and can send exponents for the SEA, Asian and Olympic Games.

Lau reiterated her call to the athletes to continue to train hard and fight for the glory of RTC and Sibu.

During the dinner, RTC also presented incentives to John Ting of SMK Lanang, Tiffany Yew of SMK Tiong Hin and 9-year- old Ronald Hu of SJK Thai Kwang for emerging as the Best Boy, Best Girl and Most Promising Boy.
