GPS to support amendment if ‘pursuant to MA63’ included — Wan Junaidi
KUCHING: All Gabungan Parti Sarawak ( GPS) members of parliament would support an amendment to Article 1 ( 2) of the Federal Constitution if the words “pursuant to MA6 3 ( Malaysia Agreement 1963)” were included.
S a nt ub on g member of parliament Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said he is confident that the amendment could be tabled in Parliament again.
“Don’t just play politics. We want something more substantial, firm, and based on the MA63 spirit, and if there is a win-win situation, we will fully support it,” he told a press conference after chairing a project update meeting for his constituency yesterday.
He stressed that GPS members of parliament had abstained from voting for the amendment, which was tabled on Wednesday, because the words “pursuant to MA63” were not included.
Wan Junaidi explained that without the words, the amendment was not suf f icient to avoid confusion on the defi nition of the federation.
“What GPS is doing now is for the future of younger Sarawakians and this needs to be understood. We are not fi ghting against ( Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs) Chong Chieng Jen, (Works Minister) Baru Bian, and others, but we are fighting for the same thing, to right the wrongs for Sarawak,” he said.
“Since we are amending it, we must amend it completely, and not repeat past mistakes.”
On the Rural Transformation Projects (RTP) in his constituency, Wan Junaidi said he is satisfied with their implementation.
He cal led on the Pakatan Harapan federal government to implement projects approved by the previous Barisan Nasional federal government in 2017 and 2018.
“These projects should not be politicised as they are for the people.”
