SIBU: The Sarawak government has planned for the construction of affordable houses under the ‘Rumah Spektra Permata’ scheme for the next two years.

According to a political secretary to chief minister Tan Kai, the works are on- going at eight locations across Sarawak, namely the Darul Hana and Bunga Rampai developments – both in Kuching, Kemuyang here, Lundu and Sematan, Igan in Mukah, Tian in Matu, and Rangau in Limbang.

Each unit has a built-up area ranging from 700 square feet to 820 square feet, with a selling price of RM90,000 to RM160,000, he added.

The types vary, he said, from single- storey terraced units to single- storey detached house on stilts.

“The Rumah Spektra Permata is one of the initiatives to help Sarawakians (own their own houses) as PR1MA is a mediumcost housing scheme,” said Tan, who represented Minister of Local Government and Housing Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at the opening of Sarawak Housing and Real Estate Developers Association (Sheda) ‘Sibu Roadshow’ and also the ‘Home Ownership Campaign’ (HOC) 2019 in Wisma Sanyan here yesterday. The roadshow runs till April 14.

Another political secretary to chief minister Daniel Bujal, Rajang Port Authority chairman Clarence Ting, Sheda vice-president Cecil Lau Ning Kiang who is also the Sibu branch chairman, and Sheda Sibu advisor Dato Sri Joseph Ting were also present at the event.

On the criteria for Rumah Spektra Permata, Tan said those with monthly household income of not more than RM3,000 would be eligible for this housing scheme, adding that Mutiara Mortgage & Credit Sdn Bhd would provide the end-financing facility to approved buyers.

On the Sheda roadshow, Tan said it was the first for this town, which served as the second leg after the kick- off in Kuching – it would proceed to Bintulu next.

According to him, the roadshow focuses on HOC 2019, which targets more home-buyers. It offers at least 10 per cent discount on units and stamp duty exemptions.

It is learnt that there are 36 booths being run at the event, comprising property developers from Sarawak, Kuala Lumpur and Johor, as well as Inland Revenue Board and Maybank.
