Two friends remanded on suspicion of killing man

-

MIRI: Two friends arrested on suspicion of killing a man in August last year were ordered to be remanded for three days and one day respectively.

The order was issued by Magistrate Kasyfurrahman Abang Ahmad after receiving a remand application from investigating officer ASP Dorairajah Vanaltham.

In his application, Dorairajah said that on Aug 25, 2018, a 56-yearold man filed a report at Lutong Police Station.

In his report, the complainant said that around 4am that same day while he was in his house at Desa Indah, Permyjaya, a neighbour contacted him to tell him that a man was knocking at his door.

On checking, he saw his nephew at the door and let him in. His nephew immediately went to the toilet before lying down to sleep in the living room.

At around 6am, when the complainant was about to leave for work, he saw his nephew sleeping in the living room. The complainant returned home at 8.30am to take his wife out for breakfast and saw his nephew still fast asleep and breathing.

When the complainant returned home with his wife at 11am, he saw his nephew asleep but his face looked pale.

The complainant immediately contacted the hospital for help. A paramedic who arrived and checked on his nephew told him that his nephew had died.

Acting on information received, around 4.10pm on April 10, the police arrested a 23-year old man at Jalan Suluq, Permyjaya on suspicion of his involvement in the case.

The 27-year old second suspect who is an ex-prisoner was arrested at 5.45am on April 11 at a house in Quadruplex, Permyjaya on suspicion of his involvement in the same case.

Further in his application, Dorairajah said that a seven- day remand according to Section 117 of the Criminal Procedure Code was needed for both suspects to enable the police to complete their investigation paper which was made according to Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The police also need time to track down the case’s exhibit as well as the suspects’ partner in crime who is still at large.

Defense counsel Ranbir Singh for the second suspect objected to the application with the reason that during the incident, his client was being detained in Lambir Central Prison for a different crime and was only released on Aug 27, 2018.

The court then allowed a threeday remand on the first suspect and one day remand for the second suspect.
