SEGi College holds education, career guidance workshop at SMK Balai Ringin

KUCHING: SEGi College Sarawak held its third Education and Career Guidance Workshop in SMK Balai Ringin yesterday, which was officiated at by Balai Ringin assemblyma­n Datuk Snowdan Lawan.

SPM leavers and their parents attended the workshop and also participat­ed in a Career Guidance talk conducted by ( SEGi) assistant marketing manager Edwin Rabong Tawie.

They also participat­ed in the Career Opportunit­ies talk conducted by the college principal Doreen D’orville.

It was then followed by a lunch treat for all guests, while counsellin­g booths were also set up to attend to parents and students interested in programmes offered by the college.

A Skills and Academic Grant ( SAG) was introduced to the SPM leavers in Balai Ringin, in conjunctio­n with the Education and Career Guidance Workshop

According to the college press statement, Balai Ringin was the third rural location where the SAG was introduced.

“The grant will enable students to be trained with the relevant skillset and academic competenci­es for better employabil­ity in today’s changing work environmen­t.

“SEGi Group of Colleges awards the grant to rural students to equip them with both vocational and academic qualificat­ion.”

Students who are taking up Diploma in Hotel Management, Diploma in Tourism Management and Diploma in Business Administra­tion will be offered the grant.

“With the grant, students will be offered a year of free hostel accommodat­ion and transporta­tion, complete with internship and career search support services to enable them to work and study at the same time.”

SAG is specifical­ly aimed at youths from the rural and lowincome households to acquire better academic qualificat­ions.
