CM: GPS a solid base to fight for Sarawak’s rights
The future of Sarawak will be brighter, with us (GPS) leading it to the right direction. Our compass needs to be right because if not, we would be lost. — Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Chief Minister
MIRI: The formation of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is in line with the aspiration of the people of Sarawak.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg points out that the coalition provides a solid foundation for the Sarawak government to champion its rights and fight for its autonomy.
“The future of Sarawak will be brighter, with us (GPS) leading it to the right direction. Our compass needs to be right because if not, we would be lost.
“In this digital world, we no longer need a compass – we are now using the Global Positioning System (GPS) for us to follow through the right direction. The same with our GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak),” he said in his keynote address for a townhall programme with local youths dubbed ‘Berambeh Ngan Abang Jo’ (Hanging Out With Abang Jo) at Bekenu community hall here yesterday, which was run in conjunction with ‘Miri Zone Today For Tomorrow (T4T) Carnival’.
Abang Johari pointed out that the strong unity among Sarawakians, regardless of race and religion, continued to provide close cooperation towards meeting the goal of making Sarawak an advanced economy by 2030.
Moreover, he also said that the federal and Sarawak governments were working closely to ensure that Sarawak would regain its rights.
“Actually, the federal government has a good intention to restore our rightful rights and our prime minister is, indeed, keen on returning the rights to Sarawak. The only thing is that we feel their ways of doing it should be refined and regulated properly,” he said, stressing that any constitutional right must adhere to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.
“The Malaysia Agreement 1963 stands as the foundation of Malaysia. So if it’s the basis, of course we could not run away from what’s already stipulated under the agreement,” Abang Johari pointed out.
